TIM FERGUSON

Tim has a distinguished track record of building and turning around financial services businesses. He believes that investors are finally ready to commit themselves to mission aligned investing, and that conventional investment management businesses are unable to meet this demand.

During the first 26 years of Tim’s career, he worked to develop and lead investment management businesses in Asia, North America and the United Kingdom. From 1996-2002 at Putnam Investments (Boston, US), Tim oversaw investment teams managing assets that grew from $175 billion to $450 billion. Tim managed the organization through the boom of the late 1990s - seeking balanced business expansion - and through the bust of the dotcom bubble - requiring dramatic resource reallocation and refocusing the business. Before embarking on TILT, Tim built and led a successful social enterprise, Next Street, which revolutionizes how its clients provide capital, customers and services to small businesses and entrepreneurs in some of the most vulnerable communities in the US.

TOM HASLETT

Tom’s work integrates his experience developing investment processes and building social enterprises.  He is motivated by a passion for learning, integrating the lessons from failure and success, and believing that financial capital can be a force for good.

In the first half of his career he led investment teams to build and manage institutional portfolios in both developed and frontier capital markets, including at Putnam Investments with Tim.  In 2008 Tom led an unsuccessful effort to launch a private equity fund: the Africa Health Care Fund. Over the last decade and a half, Tom has founded a number of social enterprises serving children in Sub Saharan Africa and India: Bantwana and the Central Square Foundation.  TILT integrates Tom’s passion for social change with his experience in both investment management and social enterprise expertise.

KAIRYN RAINER

Kairyn joined TILT in 2021 following a decade at New England Conservatory where she served as Vice President of Administration and Operations, managing the conservatory’s physical plant, performance operations, and general infrastructure departments including security, technology, and human resources. Early in her career, Kairyn worked for international law firms in Boston and Chicago, initially managing Y2K upgrades before moving into professional development, performance management and compensation, then into practice management.

Having relocated to Boston twenty years ago, Kairyn lives with her husband and their children in Pembroke, MA, where she actively volunteers as the chair of the town’s recycling committee, as a member of the Democratic Town Committee and Pembroke for Racial Justice, a community-organized activist group. She is also a member of the town’s Historical Society.

JENNIFER LIEN

Jenn brings a balance of advising, strategy, operations and investment experience to the team. She is committed to elevating mission aligned investments as a credible approach for investors to address social and environmental issues while generating financial returns in line with their values.

After building a nonprofit global health organization that grew to more than 60 university-based chapters, Jenn was a strategy consultant at Accenture, advising clients in the healthcare sector while working on pro-bono international development projects. She then joined Tim at Next Street, where she managed client engagements with high-impact small businesses, investors and economic development entities. Jenn received her MBA at the MIT Sloan School of Management, where she explored how technology and innovative finance can connect investors with intentional, purposeful opportunities.
